Tromsø

This gorgeous video is made in Tromsoe, northern Norway and features the most beautiful northern lights. I lived there for 4.5 years before moving here to the south of Norway a year ago.

Mushroom mania

Howdy!

Don't let the title confuse you!

All this rain we've been having lately has brought with it HUGE mushrooms in the bush surrounding the house.
I'm sure they will be covered up with snow soon. Yes, just like I predicted yesterday. We had snowfall today! Not a whole lot, but enough to pull the sheets over my head and stay in bed for an extra while longer.....brrrr. Not great to have snowfall at the end of September. Yikes. I think this will be our last winter up here. We are planning on moving to the southern coastal part of Norway next year. That way we will avoid the L O N G 7-8 month long winters, the arctic darkness and the midnight sun.

Now I am off to making some dinner. I'm starving! I'm thinking tomato soup with chopped up Norwegian sausages. Sounds frightening I know, but is a darn good meal on a cold and rainy day.

Take care everyone and be cozy wherever you are!

Love,
Sabine:)

Thank you!

Wow! Thanks so much for all your comments and participation regarding my June give-away! Nice to see how diverse everyone's tastes are, which is great for me since my Etsy shop primarily focuses on one of a kind pieces.

I know I've been lazy again keeping up my blog entries. To be honest, I have been so buys that I just haven't had the energy to fill you all in about my latest happenings.

Last week, John and I went on a nice drive around the island, bought some fast food ( which we only do perhaps once or twice a year ), found ourselves a nice spot on the beach and had lunch. See pictures below.

I am looking forward on taking some time off in the middle of August. It will be good to get away from my studio and come back refreshed with some new inspiration.

It is summer solstice today ( A solstice is an astronomical event that happens twice each year, when the tilt of the Earth's axis is most inclined toward or away from the Sun, causing the Sun's apparent position in the sky to reach its northernmost or southernmost extreme) and most Scandinavians celebrate that with a barbeque on the beach and a bonfire. Unfortunately, as almost every year, it is raining on midsummer night.

If you have checked out my shop lately you will probably have noticed some new items with some fabulous juicy looking stones. I'm so lucky. I have an awesome team of stone suppliers ( sorry I won't reveal them ) from Italy and Germany. They have the most interesting and high quality gemstones here in Europe that I have been lucky enough to find.
I am working on some more new pieces and hopefully have a whole bunch ready to list sometime next week or perhaps the end of this week. I hope that will stir up some activity in my shop!

I'm off to bed. It's only 9:30pm and I can't stop yawning.

Wishing everyone a super fabulous day!

Ta da,
♥

Color, color and more color..

Good day!

Just listed two more necklaces in my Etsy shop!

I have been hoarding the Rhodochrosite one now for about a couple of months. I guess I feel this odd sense of attachment to some of my jewelry?! As you read the description of the piece you can probably understand why.

The Turquoise one is just the most gorgeous cab I have been having the pleasure of using for quite a while. I wish every Turquoise stone would be so utterly "perfect". Great colors and quite an expensive stone, but I couldn't resist purchasing it once I laid eyes on it.
Here is the URL to that listing: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25515133

Just had some yummy scampi for dinner ( way too many ), so I'm thinking of taking a walk while the rain stops and also to get some fresh air. Been spending most of my time inside today, working. :-))

Laters!

Backyard happenings

The lovely and cuddly neighbor catcoming to get a little cuddle.....
The view from the backyard to Tromsø Island. As you can see there is still quite a bit of snow.
Icicles on the neighbor shed.
The view right outside our entrance

It's a gorgeous day!

I just came back from a nice and brisk walk. The sun is shining in all it's glory....*sigh*...feels sooo good to see some of the ice and snow melting. I hope we are finally on a transition to spring. I remember snow falling on the 12th of May last year.

I'd like to thank everyone so far for your comments regarding my easter give-away! Wow! I can't believe how many of you have responded so far! Thanks also to those of you who follow my blog! I am working on keeping it updated more frequently now. It's not an easy thing for me to do since I'm not that creative when it comes to writing. I used to love to write, however, I think I am in the midst of a transitional period between three languages. Often I can not remember how to spell a certain word in english (!) which really bothers me to bits. I prided myself on how well I wrote and spoke english before I came to Norway. Now, my main focus is on learning Norwegian, which, even after three years, is still quite difficult for me. Most people here tell me that it is easy for Germans to learn this language due to some similarities but not in my case since I think in english all the time. Having lived in Canada for 15 yrs. has really put a bump in German. The only time I still speak it is when I call family.

I haven't really done any work in my studio today. The rays of sunshine poking through the windows has given me a restless feeling of wanting to just stay outside all day and fuel up on some missing Vitamin D.
Tomorrow I will definitively catch up on some projects I had started a couple of days ago. Looking forward to that:-D

Now I'm off to making some din din: French ham and roasted potatoes with rosemary....mmhh yummy!

Keep those comments coming! I promise to take each and every one into consideration!

Hope wherever you are the sun is shining as well!

xx,

Sabine

I have to say, that after months of winter I am getting a tad anxious to see some green. About a week ago I thought that the winter is almost over, but then the snow hit again, big time! One almost gets tired of seeing white everywhere. It's fun for a while, but after about six months of winter the urge to see some Crocuses or Daffodils poking through the earths crust gets stronger and stronger. I miss talking my walks along the beach down below.

The online local news just had a story on a triple murder that happened just about a mile away from where we live! Some Psychopath had killed three people that lived in the same house. He has been since caught by police, thank goodness. This is quite a huge story for such a peaceful and tight-knit community.

Looking forward to tomorrow. John is off work and perhaps we can go out for lunch and a tour to a local Shitzu breeder who has puppies for sale at the moment. I just want to go there to pet and cuddle them.....awww I LOVE dogs.

Hope everyone is having a cozy and warm sunday!

Was out on a photo safari with John and his nephew who is here visiting from Bergen:
