Sept.23,2011

Tried to do a lot of casting these past few days, but for some reason it didn't want to turn out. For some odd reason melted silver was "spitting" all over the place while pouring and never made it's way to the mold. This never happened before so I'll need to find out what the problem is.

I am sure some of you can relate to days when your ideas spin out of control! Well, if I could have a talk with my muse I would tell it to come visit me when I'm behind the bench and not while driving or sleeping. I always think that I will remember all those ideas, but to be honest, most of them disappear when I don't sketch them down immediately. I do keep a sketchbook at my bedside table, however, most times I am so groggy that by sketching down a design in the middle of a sleepy state of mind I wake up and can't go back to sleep. Well well, we just can't have it all. I do find it extremely fascinating how it all works.
The design for the labradorite piece below came to me while driving to Oslo. I stopped at the next gas station, took my iPhone and sketched the design before it had a chance to escape me again.
I had this stone for  quite a long time and didn't know how to incorporate it into a design. It doesn't have a flat back and the only option would be ( with the tools I have available ) to either wire wrap it or like I did, cap it.
I am so happy with the outcome and glad that I was able to use this gorgeous blue-green flash labradorite in a unique design.

It is available here.

I also made more items this past week. A couple of rings and a few necklaces such as:

Rosetta Jasper Cocktail Ring in Sterling Silver.

Available here

Mystical Lotus Leaf Necklace with Red Garnet. Available here.

Lipstick colored jasper druzy set in sterling silver. 14 carat gold granules grace the textured baseplate. Available here.

Custom order for a delightful customer from Finland. Sage Amethyst set in sterling silver.

Stars Ring with red garnet. Inspired by my late night walks. Available here.

And lastly a picture of my messy bench which, no matter how much I clean it never stays organized for more than a couple of hours. It's hopeless.

Hope your week was filled with a good dose of joy and laughter!

Happy Sunday all!

Thanks for reading!

Hello again

It's been so long since my last blogpost that I almost have a bad conscience.
Things are going to change soon. I realize how much I miss sharing bits and pieces of my life and work with you. Life has been quite busy for me in the past couple of months and I just did not have a chance and the energy to blog. After all, blogging should be done with joy and not because one has to.
I'll be working on new jewelry in the next couple of days and should have some new pieces to show early next week!

Below is a picture of lovely Sandefjord that I took today!

Have a lovely day everyone and thanks so much for reading!

They come in two's

I finally managed to finish two necklaces today! Yayyy for me!! :)
One is a rectangular pendant with a nice bezel set rainforest jasper cabochon. The edge around the pendant is scalloped and matches the bezel.
The other one features a square amber cabochon and lovely embellishments. This design came to me last night as John and I went to a flea market and came across some cool antique wrought iron pieces. I really love this one. It took a long time to craft, but I am very happy the way it turned out.
I am waiting on some silver sheet from the UK and don't know when it is going to get here since they had another mail strike of some sort. Plus it might be delayed at the border again as usual. As long as I will have it next week since I am going to have three off work. I really need to catch up on my shops. People please bare with me. I will have another shop update perhaps tomorrow. Not sure how many items I will manage to create with the silver I have left. We'll see.

Have a great day everyone!

It seems like that I do my best and most efficient work when I am trying to cope with inner turmoil.
My dad is not feeling so great these days. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer a couple of years ago and has since had radiation therapy. Now, after having just had some unrelated surgery they found a couple of swollen lymph nodes that seems to be of some concern. His doctor has told him a while back that the cancer he's had is of an aggressive type. He is obviously worried and so is my mom. I so hope he'll be okay.
My dad and I have never really been close. It was tough growing up as the oldest of three girls. He had quite an aggressive nature about him and would often yell and scream at us for no apparent reason. Stress was a common factor in my life. Having to worry constantly about whether I had done something wrong or not. Yikes, that was just awful.
He has since changed a lot and is a lot more reserved and calmer than he used to be. I love my dad and owe him a great deal even though he has caused me a lot of pain back then. He's had it tough and should've dealt with his demons before having brought us into this world. Back then, sadly, it was almost a common factor to be brought up in a strict way.
Anyways, I have grown a lot and put all my energy into being the best person I can be and without my creativity I would go bonkers. I need it like water. Today was a day of intense creating. I need that. It felt extremely therapeutic and filled with joy and good music. I try and put my sadness into something creative and it works ( almost ) every time.

Now, I'm off to take my last few items out of the tumbler and make myself something to eat...I'm starving!

Below are some new items I finished today!

Ciao for now,

xox,

Sabine:-)

Yippeee! The sun is coming!

After a three month long arctic darkness period, the sun has made an appearance! Slowly, every day the sun will make its way more and more over the horizon. We all crave it. Even though the wintery darkness here gives me tremendous inspiration regarding my creativity, it also brings with it a tad of sadness or in some cases depression, which luckily hasn't effected me in any way yet.
I am looking forward to see what this year has in store for me. I'm excited about life and the endless possibilities that lie ahead. I am working really hard to do some marketing outside of Norway to get more international business. Etsy has been absolutely great for that. Most of my customers are from overseas and from other parts of Europe. I feel so blessed to have quite a nice following. There is no better feeling than making things people love. My creativity constantly gets a boost. I do realize now that I need to take a break from the creative urge once in a while and just chill. I am a firm believer in never taking the eye off the tiger, to stay focused and not get side-tracked is a very important every-day reminder for me.

I am waiting on some incredibly beautiful Cabochons that hopefully should arrive sometime this coming week. Thinking about making some rings, a ton of it. My twig and branch style items ( there are a couple of them in my Etsy shop ) have them quite popular here in Europe with some of my wholesalers.

It's almost 9pm and I need to get a couple of orders packaged up to be send off tomorrow.

Hope everyone is having a fun-filled sunday!
